Eating Farm-to-Table in Raleigh-Durham, NC

Over the past few years, “farm-to-table” has been a new phrase added to the vocabulary of chefs, farmers, restaurateurs and food consumers across the country.

Farm-to-table simply means that the food you’re eating (or putting on your family’s table) comes straight from local farms, without the middlemen. This movement has become popular because it strengthens the farmer-consumer relationship and creates a win-win situation for both parties.

Supporting local farms helps farmers make a living producing the best, freshest food –– and for consumers, getting your food straight from nearby farms means that it will be tastier, last longer and save you money by reducing food transportation costs.

Whisk: Helping You Support Local Food

At Whisk, we do our best to promote a farm-to-table lifestyle in Raleigh and Cary, NC and support the abundance of farms in the surrounding area. One way that we do this is through our cooking classes, which encourage cooks at all levels to explore new foods and new ways to prepare them.

On Saturday, May 17, we hosted an All Day Canning Jubilee at our Cary store, along with a class titled “21st Century Canning with the N&O’s Andrea Weigl”. Weigl, local author of “Pickles & Preserves” taught participants all about canning, including why it’s becoming a popular hobby and how to easily start canning fruits and vegetables.

As a part of our Canning Jubilee, Whisk also welcomed canners from Cary and beyond to bring their best canned item (jelly, jam, preserve or pickled vegetable) to enter into a contest to win a canning stock pot, canning supplies or a gift certificate to Whisk.

With Whisk, you can find the best way to eat and preserve local foods to improve your health and our community year-round! Sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form to the left, call us or stop by our Cary, NC store to learn more about our cooking classes and store events.
