This Summer we are whisking your kids off for a “Summer abroad” culinary adventure with all new menus for them to explore. In this hands-on 4-day summer camp focused on learning, teamwork, and fun in the kitchen, these young chefs will cook global recipes filled with interesting new flavors; and learn cooking techniques and culinary skills from expert chefs. Our young chefs will also learn basic kitchen and knife skills, proper food safety and healthy dietary practices. Register now for this 4-day camp focused on world cuisine. Each day we will introduce a different global cuisine with the menus incorporating classic cooking techniques; sautéing, roasting, steaming, grilling, and baking. Our young chefs will also be working in small teams to develop their team cooking skills.

We will teach them how to read and organize recipe procedures, preparing “mis en place“ (everything in its place - measuring & chopping ingredients before they begin cooking). At the end of the 4-day camp, our young chefs will have developed skills to cook a meal for everyone at home!

On the first day, each camper will be given the week’s recipes packets, so that they can become familiar with what they will be cooking throughout the week. Each day of the camp, they will prepare a complete meal including dessert from a different region of the world. On the last day, there will be a competition allowing them to creatively demonstrate their new cooking skills!

This Summer, Whisk has developed a fun-filled camp dedicated to teaching your kids the essential cooking techniques taught at our favorite culinary schools!   In Whisk’s Essential Cooking Techniques Camp, we will introduce a series of menu items each day that incorporate a variety of cooking techniques.  Whisk’s chefs will teach your kids when and where to use certain techniques, and how to put different techniques together to create a dish. Our professional culinary team will inspire your kids and give them skills that will last a lifetime!

The camp will also focus on teaching our young chefs knife skills, food safety, team work, healthy dietary practices, how to read and organize recipe procedures, and preparing “mis en place“ (everything in its place - measuring & chopping ingredients before they begin cooking).  They will be working in small teams to develop their team cooking skills. 

On the first day, each student will be given the week’s recipes packets, so that they can become familiar with what they will be cooking throughout the week. Each day of the camp, they will prepare a complete meal incorporating the techniques they have learned that day.

Menus:
Day One: One pan wonders
-
Lemon chicken in “hobo packs” with herbed couscous (steaming and campfire cooking)
-One sheet dinner beef tacos (roasting, one pan meals, seasoning)
-One dish lasagna (sauce essentials, layering ingredients, baking, freezing)

Day Two: Working with meats 
-Chicken Marbella with rice pilaf (searing, braising, perfecting rice)
-Pork cutlets Milanese with mustard (breading and pan frying)
-Asian grilled steak with vegetable zoodles (marinades, grilling, and spiralizing)

Day Three: Pâte-á-choux
-Chocolate eclairs (pâte-á-choux sweet pastry, filling and glaze)
-Cheddar and chive cheese puffs (savory pastry)
-Churro waffles with dulce de leche (batters, waffle making, and warm toppings)

Day Four: Biscuits
-Bacon and chive drop biscuits (savory biscuits)
-Classic buttermilk biscuits (batter, working with molds, baking)
-Chicken biscuits with pimento cheese (tenderizing, coating, pan frying)
-Strawberry shortcakes (quick summer desserts)

Kids Summer Camp: The Main Street Bake Shop

Whether your kid is bonkers for baking or just a baking beginner, there is something for everyone in this hands-on camp. Each day, the kids will create some amazingly delicious treats, applying plenty of creativity along the way.  Along with the fun and fantastic treats, Chef Teresa will teach your kids a variety of techniques including - measuring for consistency, mixing processes, best ingredients to use, piping, rolling, baking and cooling – all to get foolproof results. This hands-on camp is designed just for kids, ages 7 to 11, and the $299 cost covers the cost for the entire 4-day camp. 

 Menus:
Day One: Muffins, scones and cheesecakes
-Morning glory muffins
-Fresh blueberry scones with cinnamon lemon butter
-Mini double chocolate cheesecakes with white chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings

Day Two: Pâte-á-choux, cakes, and homemade ice cream 
-French vanilla ice cream with a fresh strawberry sauce
-Pâte-á-choux for profiteroles
-Peach melba cake

 Day Three: Batters
-Creaming method:  Funfetti cupcakes with vanilla buttercream
-Muffin method:  Lemon olive oil cake with blueberry compote
